Fresno is littered with empty pharmacy buildings. Some have new tenants with plans
Drive anywhere around the Fresno area and you’ll eventually see an empty chain pharmacy. It’s been a year since Rite Aid filed for bankrtuptcy and closed more than 2,000 stores — 17 of them in the San Joaquin Valley. And at least seven locations of CVS and Walgreens have closed in Fresno alone. So what’s happening with those stores? Some have new renters that haven’t moved in yet. Keep reading to find out who — including a new business that wants to move into the Rite Aid on the edge of the Tower District. Some are in the final stages of negotiating with renters or new buyers. And some are still sitting empty. These buildings are challenging to fill. They’re too big for fast food or other restaurants. Too small for regular grocery stores or big retail chains. Too short for the growing trend of kids indoor play centers , and usually lack the loading dock needed for showrooms selling kitchen tile or

The last time we looked closely at Fresno 93727, the lowest-priced quarter of the market had the shortest listing time. This time, the middle tiers stand out. That change is a good reminder of why I like revisiting our ZIP codes rather than letting an old market headline do all the talking.

Inside the new group hoping to shake up Fresno’s development politics (and make homes more affordable)
Fresno seems like the rare California city where you’re more likely to see residents clamoring for more housing in older neighborhoods, than not. (Except, maybe in Old Fig. Or the San Joaquin River Bluffs.) So, it might be surprising that the Yes-In-My-Backyard movement, or YIMBY, hasn’t quite taken off...

A Metal Storage Shed Went Up in a Fresno Back Yard, Well Over 120 Square Feet, and the City Ordered It Removed or Permitted.
A metal storage shed went up in a rented Fresno back yard last spring. The inspector who came out on May 30, 2025 never got into that back yard at all, and wrote in the case file anyway that the added shed was "well over the allowed 120 square feet."
