Suspect in Pierz Traffic Stop Suffers Knife Injury After Struggle with Deputy
A suspect suffered a knife injury after a struggle between him and a deputy took place during an attempted arrest near Pierz. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that at around 10:30 p.m. on May 25, a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle located on Highway 25, just south of Pierz in Pierz Township. The driver was being investigated for speeding and suspicion of driving under the influence.

Princeton, Milaca residents involved in five-vehicle crash
A five-vehicle crash in Elk River involved four Milaca residents, and one Princeton resident on Thursday, May 23. The crash on Highway 169 caused multiple people non-life-threatening injuries. Curtiss Donald Kretsch, 65, Little Falls, was charged in Morrison County District Court with one felony count of second-degree assault. At the Tuesday, May 14 Board of Commissioners planning session, Auditor/Treasurer Shannon Coyle gave a detailed presentation providing insight into the many roles and responsibilities of the auditor/treasurer’s department. Coyle began by outlining the department’s organizational structure and staffing levels. She noted that the department is now fully staffed after recently hiring a new employee. Possession charge dismissed for Monnier
A felony charge of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor charge of driving after revocation were dismissed against Kyle Allan Monnier, 24, Little Falls, in Morrison County District Court. The charges stemmed from a Jan. 12 incident. The charges were dismissed due to insufficient evidence, according to County Attorney Brian Middendorf.
Highway 169 Construction South of Garrison to Start Next Week
Construction on Highway 169 south of Garrison is set to begin next week. Motorists can expect periodic lane closures and short-term delays as roadwork begins May 28 on Highway 169 along west Mille Lacs Lake. The $4.6 million project will resurface and improve seven miles of Highway 169 from Crow Wing County Road 26 to a half mile north of Ojibwe Drive.

The Pierz Healy High School announced its inductees for the 2024 class in the Hall of Fame. The following inductees are Alan Lanners, Class of 1986; Ben Zilka, Class of 1999; Mike Weber, Class of 2009; Megan Boser, Class of 2013, Bridget Bedgar, class of 2014, Coach Craig Johnstoy and PA announcer Brian Faust. The 2024 class will be recognized at halftime during the Pierz Pioneers football game against Melrose High School Friday, Sept. 27.
