First Emerald Ash Borer Infestation in Morrison County Prompts Emergency Quarantine
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has confirmed the presence of the emerald ash borer (EAB) in Morrison County. This is the first time EAB, an insect that kills ash trees by feeding on their nutrients, has been found in this county. The insect has been reported in 46 counties across the state. The first suspected EAB infestation was reported at a Genola campground, with additional findings near Little Falls.
Pedestrian Hit by Pickup in St. Cloud Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries
(St. Cloud, MN) -- A man from Morrison County is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle in St. Cloud. The Minnesota State Patrol says a pickup was northbound on Highway 23 Sunday morning when it struck 19-year-old Shawn Kimmons of Bowlus. Kimmons was taken to the hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The report says there was snow and ice on the roadway and that alcohol was not involved.

Two incidents occurred in Morrison County, Minnesota this week. The first incident involved a one-vehicle crash near Upsala, where a 17-year-old boy lost control of the vehicle, went into a ditch, and hit a tree. The driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The second incident took place at a firewood processing plant outside of Little Falls, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old man who was trapped in a firewood processing machine. Despite rescue attempts, the man died at the scene.

Little Falls Man Dies in Accident at Firewood Processing Facility
A 39-year-old Little Falls man has died in an accident at a firewood processing facility near Little Falls. The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office says Hector Gonzalez Zelaya was found trapped in a firewood processing machine by co-workers. Deputies and first responders arrived and attempted lifesaving measures but were unsuccessful, and Zelaya was declared dead at the scene.

MINNEAPOLIS — A 39-year-old man has died after an accident at a firewood processing plant outside of Little Falls. The Morrison County Sheriff's Office says the accident happened at a plant at 233rd street just north of Fort Ripley Township. When they arrived on scene, they found the man trapped in a firewood processing machine. Sheriff's deputies and first responders attempted to save his life but were not able to.
