Warm, windy and wet Thursday: Unseasonable 70s continue before cooler air arrives

Southeast Michigan will enjoy another day of unusually warm weather, with highs climbing into the 70s this afternoon. Temperatures will run about 10 to 15 degrees above normal for late October, but a cold front will bring a noticeable cooldown heading into Friday. There is also a chance of showers and an isolated thunderstorm this afternoon and evening. As the front approaches and moves through the region, winds will also gust between 20-25 mph.

Scattered Rain Showers Reach Milwaukee, Chicago, West Michigan and Peoria Early Thursday as Cold Front Pushes East Late This Week Toward Indianapolis, Detroit and the Great Lakes

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — A cold front will bring scattered rain showers to the Great Lakes region late this week as it pushes east across the Midwest. Simulated radar for 4 a.m. EDT Thursday, October 29, shows the front stretching from central Wisconsin near Wausau southwest through Iowa and into Missouri. Scattered showers are developing ahead of it across southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, Lake Michigan and west Michigan. The front is expected to keep moving east toward Indiana, Ohio and southeast Michigan, including the Indianapolis and Detroit areas, through Thursday.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning With 60 MPH Winds and Possible Tornado Covers Ashland, Mellen and Cable in Northern Wisconsin Near the Michigan Line

ASHLAND, WI — A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued on the evening of Wednesday, October 28, for parts of northern Wisconsin, with the warned area extending close to the Michigan state line. The warning highlighted the threat of 60 mph wind gusts and a possible tornado as a line of strong storms pushed northeast across the region. Radar imagery at 7:59 PM showed an intense band of storms stretching from near Cable north through Ashland and into Lake Superior.

Tonight's Forecast: Clear and cold

WEST MICHIGAN — The forecast from Weather Ready Meteorologist Gracyn Freund: After about a 2 week stretch of dry weather, a cold front brought us a few showers in West Michigan today. Nothing very impactful, as most spots only picked up a trace to a tenth of an inch of rain. Behind the front, chilly air will filter in tonight and lows will drop to around 40. Friday will be dry but cooler with highs in the upper 50s to around 60, which is still a few degrees above average. As for Halloween on Saturday, the forecast is trending a lot drier which is good news for trick-or-treaters! An isolated shower will be possible south of Grand Rapids, but most should stay dry. Otherwise we'll be mostly cloudy with highs in the lower 60s. Don't forget that Daylight Saving Time comes to an end Saturday night when we will turn the clocks back one hour at 2 a.m., giving us an extra hour of sleep/Halloween fun! Clouds will decrease through the day Sunday with highs in the mid 60s. Monday looks very similar, but the middle of next week will be more active with rain chances Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Tonight's Forecast: Increasing clouds with a few showers

WEST MICHIGAN — The forecast from Weather Ready Meteorologist Colton Cichoracki: It's been a beautiful fall day with sunshine, and temperatures that really didn't feel like fall with highs in the lower 70s. This is about 10-15 degrees warmer than average! A cold front will move through late tonight into Thursday, finally bringing rain chances back to the forecast. There will be some showers around Thursday morning so make sure you're prepared for that on your way out the door. A few spotty showers will continue through the morning and into the early afternoon, but the rest of the day is looking dry with decreasing clouds with highs in the 60s. Another dry day is coming Friday with highs in the 60s. As for Halloween on Saturday, no washout is expected but there could be an isolated shower or two late in the day, mainly south/west. Temperatures will be in the 60s. Do not forget that Daylight Saving Time comes to an end Saturday night when we will turn the clocks back one hour at 2 a.m., giving us an extra hour of Halloween fun! The start of next week looks quiet, with more rain chances coming on Tuesday.
