For years the Salvation Army has held Shop with a Cop, pairing children with police as they look for new clothes and shoes. RCPD along with Tribal Law Enforcement served as chaperons Tuesday for at risk and under served children in the Black Hills Region. Lengthy Prison Term For Man Who Shot At Construction Workers Near Rapid City
A Rapid City man convicted in March of shooting at construction workers in the Rapid City area last year has been sentenced to 45 years in prison. 45-year old Carl Relf had 10 years of the sentence suspended and was given credit for 472 days already served, but says he will appeal the sentence as too harsh. Together, the charges carried a maximum of 50 years.

Rapid City's Care Campus: A Local Solution for Behavioral Health and Criminal Justice Issues
South Dakota officials and Behavior Management Systems, a healthcare company, have collaborated to develop a care system for individuals with behavioral health issues who are also involved with the criminal justice system. This initiative, based in Rapid City and Pennington County, provides services to prevent these individuals from engaging with the justice system. The Care Campus, a repurposed college building in Rapid City, is the center of these services. It offers detox, residential care, and treatment for substance use disorders and mental health conditions. Instead of arresting individuals for minor offenses, law enforcement officers can bring them to the Care Campus for treatment.
