JANESVILLE — The YMCA of Northern Rock County is hosting its 5th annual Sip & Support fundraiser Nov. 13 at Woodman’s Sports & Convention Center from 6-9:30 p.m. The event will help raise money to support the Y’s programming. Money raised will go into supporting programs like youth sports, swim lessons, childcare and memberships for local families who need it most. There will be live music by Ludy and his Lady, food from Sidelines Pub & Grill and a variety of Sip Stations featuring local wineries and restaurants like Timber Hill Winery, Sidelines Pub & Grill, DC Estate Winery, Good Works Brewing, Genisa, Rubbery Ducky Winery and Deusterbeck’s Brewing. More than 67,800 voters turn out in Rock County, making real turnout more than half of eligible voters

JANESVILLE — Despite rainy weather Tuesday, more than 67,800 voters cast ballots in Rock County’s Nov. 3 general election, an increase of more than 2,200 voters compared to the 2022 election. Rock County Clerk Lisa Tollefson said 67,812 voters cast ballots. That represents a little more than half of the 129,654 eligible voters in Rock County. Unofficial election results can be found on the Rock County website. Tollefson said the voter registration numbers displayed on the county’s website reflect registered voters as of 20 days before the election. Based on that figure of 97,850 registered voters, the turnout would be just under 70%. However, Wisconsin allows voters to register on Election Day, meaning the number of eligible voters can differ from the number of registered voters listed before the election. Tollefson said she noticed increased engagement during this year’s election, including a larger number of election observers. At Janesville City Hall, she said there were six observers. She said there was a steady flow of voters throughout the day. While there were occasional bursts of activity, turnout remained consistent. Tollefson also noted that absentee ballots were up this year and said she felt there was more overall engagement compared to

Janesville-Beloit gas prices remain far above year-ago levels after volatile six months

Rock County drivers and businesses have endured a volatile six months at the pump, with gasoline prices rising and falling amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and disruptions to global energy supplies. The swings have kept fuel costs in the headlines for much of the year. High gasoline and diesel prices also became part of the broader cost-of-living debate during this week’s midterm elections, with candidates, political observers and voters pointing to fuel costs as one of the economic pressures facing households and businesses. As of this week, the average price for regular gasoline in the Janesville-Beloit area was about $4.17 per gallon, according to AAA. That was roughly $1.30 per gallon, or 45%, higher than a year earlier. Wisconsin’s statewide average was about $4.04. For a driver filling a 15-gallon tank, that year-over-year difference amounts to about $19.50 more per fill-up. The increase is even more pronounced for diesel, an important expense for trucking, construction, agriculture and other businesses. Janesville-Beloit diesel averaged about $6.25 per gallon this week, roughly $2.66, or 74%, higher than a year earlier. The local diesel average reached a record $6.72 per gallon on Sept. 22. Prices rise, fall and rise again The
