Banks, White counties latest to report officer impersonation scams
The trend of scammers impersonating local law enforcement is continuing in Northeast Georgia with two more agencies reporting the scams this week. The White County Sheriff's Office and the Banks County Sheriff's Office made social media posts Thursday and Friday, respectively, saying they've received reports from citizens of callers claiming to be with their agencies and requesting money. The scammers' methods, however, do differ based on the sheriff's offices' reports.

BOE Holds First Budget Hearing On FY-24 Budget
(Cleveland)- The White County Board of Education held the first public hearing on next year’s education budget Thursday evening. Director of Finance for the school system Julie Dorsey said 45 percent of the funding for the proposed 74.7 million dollar budget comes from local funds. The new budget does include state increases for certified employees and the board has voted to provide a 5.1 percent increase for classified workers.

It’s Graduation Day
(Cleveland)- It’s that magic graduation day for White County High School students. The ceremony will get underway at 8 PM tonight at White County High School Stadium. White County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Laurie Burkett said close to 250 students will be receiving their diplomas during the ceremony. Dr. Burkett says some folks don’t have a child graduating, but they come out to help celebrate accomplishments.
Meet the new president at University of North Georgia
An administrator at Georgia Tech has been tapped to become the next president of the University of North Georgia. The University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted Wednesday to name Michael P. “Mike” Shannon sole finalist for the UNG post. The school’s current president, Bonita Jacobs, will retire next month after 12 years of service.
