NJ railroad trestle fire smolders into Thursday
MATAWAN — Firefighters remained on the scene of a fire that destroyed the wooden Matawan Railroad train trestle, one of two fires on railroad tracks Wednesday afternoon. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service responded to the fire in the area of Lake Boulevard and First Street around 2:45 p.m. Along with Aberdeen and Matawan firefighters, they kept the fire away from homes on Lake Boulevard as thick white and gray smoke surrounded their neighborhood.

Firefighters arriving at a home in Tinton Falls yesterday evening found flames shooting through the roof. They stretched three hose lines, advanced two inside and one to the rear of the structure. Man Assaulted Trying to Stop Theft of His Car in New Brunswick
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – A man was physically assaulted at the intersection of Easton Avenue and Somerset Street when he tried to stop his car from being stolen. The man was not injured during the incident on Tuesday, March 21, according to a safety alert issued by the Rutgers University Police Department. They said the man is not affiliated with Rutgers. The victim, who was not identified by police, reported that he observed men attempting to steal his vehicle at about 8 p.m. No weapons were used or shown during the ensuing assault, according to police.
