HAZEL GREEN, Ala. (WHNT) – This week, volunteers have been at the home of a Hazel Green Army Veteran helping his family with some much-needed repairs and yard work.

According to The Home Depot Foundation, Paul D’Agostin is still dealing with the effects of several injuries from his time in the military.

That has impacted his ability to do projects like repairing his deck and fence and fixing flooding areas.

On Thursday, volunteers with The Home Depot Foundation and local nonprofit ‘BeArded WARRIORs’ teamed up to make some of those projects happen.

“These events happen twice a year, and they’re always really special because we’re not only helping a vet in their home or stuff like that, but we’re also leaving them with a better quality of life,” Ty Oswald, BeArded WARRIORs founder explained.

Other projects volunteers are working on include building a raised garden bed, a chicken coop and a firepit. They’re also building a new playset for D’Agostin’s family and working on some landscaping.

The volunteers planned to work again on Friday to wrap everything up.
