Hackensack Fire Department Aids New Milford in Vehicle Crash
Hackensack, NJ - On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Hackensack Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request from the New Milford Fire Department for an occupied vehicle that crashed into a structure with entrapment at 495 River Road. At approximately 5:38 p.m. Hackensack Fire Department’s Deputy 1, Safety Chief, Urban Area Security Initiative Special Operations, Hackensack Shoring Unit, and Hackensack Rescue 1 responded to the New Milford residence. When units arrived, they assisted New Milford Firefighters in removing one victim from the vehicle. At 6:07 p.m., Deputy 1 reported that a victim had been placed in the care of Basic Life Support for treatment and transport to a nearby hospital. Hackensack units remained on the site to help with shoring up the damaged area of the structure with temporary construction so that the vehicle could be safely removed.

Previous audit of Paterson police found wide-ranging issues
In May 2020, a Washington, D.C.-based research organization began an audit of the Paterson Police Department at the request of city officials. The findings from the Police Executive Research Forum, published in a February 2022 report, detail wide-ranging issues within the department, from police officers using force overwhelmingly against Black and brown residents of the city to the need for a community survey that would gauge residents’ satisfaction with police services. The report also found a lack of diversity at the supervisor level.
