ATASCADERO — The Atascadero community showed up in a big way to celebrate the life of Adrian “Bubba” Gilberto Gaona on Sunday, June 9 at Rocky Canyon Ranch. Gaona passed away on May 17. It was clear from the stories told and the tears shed at his celebration of life that his life had a huge impact on the Atascadero community as a whole.

Over 250 Greyhounds get their diplomas
ATASCADERO — On the warm evening of Thursday, June 6, at 6 p.m., Atascadero High School’s (AHS) graduating Class of 2024 stormed Memorial Stadium in celebration. Two hundred and sixty-one students filled up the center of the football field as their family and friends filled the bleachers on both sides of the stadium to cheer on the students in their last step to leaving high school behind and heading out into the great big world of opportunity.
Energy Commission could greenlight Morro Bay battery plant, despite local opposition
No matter how the November ballot measure on the Morro Bay battery plant turns out — the controversial power project may still be built. Scores of "Yes on Prop A-24" signs already dot the front yards of homes in Morro Bay, allowing locals a chance to voice a up-or-down vote on the planned 600 megawatt battery storage facility being proposed by Vistra Energy at the vacant 3-stack power plant site.
Tickets on sale for Country Rodeo Finals, Monster Truck Madness
– Tickets for the Country Rodeo Finals and Monster Truck Madness at the California Mid-State Fair are now on sale. The Country Rodeo Finals will be held on Saturday, July 27, while Monster Truck Madness will take place on Sunday, July 28. Both events will begin at 7 p.m. in the Main Grandstand Arena.
Fire department hosting blood drive
Drive will be held behind Fire Station 1 on 9th Street. – The Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services Department is hosting a blood drive with Vitalant on June 20 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 900 Park, behind Fire Station 1 on 9th Street. There are currently four sign-ups and 26 open slots. San Luis Obispo County urgently needs help to fill these slots and ensure a sufficient blood supply for the community.
Trustees adopt resolutions supporting by-trustee election despite concerns
PASO ROBLES — The upcoming November elections were discussed at the Tuesday night, June 11, Paso Robles Joint Unified School District (PRJUSD) board meeting. Due to the California Voting Rights Act, the district has had to make the move from an at-large voting system to a by-trustee area election.
Paso Robles Lions Club awards scholarships to Paso Robles High School graduates
PASO ROBLES — The Paso Robles Lions Club has awarded scholarships to deserving graduating seniors at Paso Robles High School for the 2023-2024 school year. The Lions Club, with the motto “We Serve,” has been dedicated to serving the community since its inception in 1917. The scholarship committee carefully considered financial need and involvement in school and community activities when selecting the recipients who maintained a non-weighted GPA of 2.7 to 3.7.
Concerts in the Park series kicks off with The JD Project this Thursday
