Bulloch BOE highlights Julia P. Bryant's academic gains, student achievements, teacher grants and approves 500 Chromebooks

The Bulloch County Board of Education met Thursday, October 8, 2026, approving an additional Chromebook purchase while recognizing student accomplishments, awarding teacher grants, and hearing updates on academic performance across the district. Board members unanimously approved the purchase of 500 additional Chromebooks to address projected technology needs and avoid potential price increases. The district previously approved 1,600 Chromebooks in May, but technology officials said growing demand from artificial intelligence has affected manufacturing capacity and the availability of computer components. Superintendent Dr. Torian White recommended purchasing the additional devices now rather than waiting until later in the school year. Director of Technology David Avera said the purchase would help secure pricing close to the previous order and potentially avoid future supply delays. The meeting also featured a presentation from Julia P. Bryant Elementary School Principal Stephanie Compton , who highlighted significant improvements in student achievement. According to Compton, 61.2% of students scored proficient or distinguished in science on the 2026 Georgia Milestones Assessment System (GMAS), an improvement of 19.9 percentage points over the previous year. The school's performance was 21.4 points above the district average and 23 points above the state average. Mathematics proficiency also increased from 43% during the 2022-23
