Wetumpka High School vandalized during senior prank, superintendent says
WETUMPKA, Ala. (WSFA) - The Elmore County public school district says an incident at Wetumpka High School has landed 11 students in trouble. Superintendent Richard Dennis sent a statement saying 11 seniors trespassed at the school this past Tuesday and “vandalized several areas.” He said those students will face consequences as outlined by the Elmore County Board of Education Code of Conduct.
Downed tree shuts down power cross-county power
A fallen tree shut down electricity for more than 1,800 residences across Lowndes, Crenshaw and Montgomery counties Wednesday. 10 indicted on charges of theft from Tuskegee University
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Ten people have been indicted on charges of theft of federal program funding from Tuskegee University, federal prosecutors said. They are accused of conspiracy to commit federal program theft that began on an unknown date and continued until 2020, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Alabama said in a statement. The university 40 miles (64 kilometers) east of Montgomery receives more than $10,000 annually in federal funding. Authorities did not disclose how much was reportedly stolen.
Pike Road Patriot Fund crawfish boil postponed
PIKE ROAD, Ala. (WSFA) - The 12th annual Pike Road crawfish boil that was set to take place Saturday has been postponed. In a Facebook post today by the Pike Road Patriot Fund, it was announced that due to forecasted strong winds and heavy rain, they have made the difficult decision to postpone the event until June 1.
Tallassee gets another $5.5 million for cast iron gas line replacement
The City of Tallassee will have almost no cast iron gas lines after another grant from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration. The $5,469,300 in grant money will be used to replace more than 13 miles of gas lines in East Tallassee. It was just a year ago PHMSA awarded Tallassee $9,700,000 in funding to replace cast iron gas lines in the Elmore County portion of Tallassee. The grants will allow Tallassee to go from a system having one of the largest percentage of cast iron lines in its system across the country to almost none.
