    Man Charged With Murdering 16-year-old at Hanover Party

    Hanover County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged the person who allegedly shot and killed a juvenile at a party in Hanover County three weeks ago.

    On April 6, just after 10:45 p.m., deputies responded to the 6000 block of McClellan Road for a parking complaint related to a large party. Once on the scene, deputies were made aware of a shooting and found 16-year-old Matthew Devine dead. Matthew’s family says he died in his brother’s arms that night.

    Investigators identified James Rashawn Smith, 18, as the suspect. On Tuesday, April 23, officials found Smith and took him into custody without incident.

    Smith has been charged with the following crimes:
    • Murder
    • Shooting into an occupied dwelling
    • Using a firearm to commit a felony
    • Brandishing a weapon
    • Carrying a concealed weapon
