Jim Furyk won't play in his PGA Tour Champions event for first time
Jim Furyk will be a fixture next week at the Constellation Furyk & Friends PGA Tour Champions event he hosts at the Ocean Course at Hammock Beach in Palm Coast. Just not with a golf club in his hand. Furyk said he would not be playing in the tournament for the first time since it began in 2021 at the Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, saying his back doesn't hold up over a week that usually includes two pro-ams and 54 holes of competitive golf in Champions Tour events. "I can play golf … everyday life is good," said the 17-time PGA Tour winner and 2003 U.S. Open Champion. "But playing five rounds of golf in a row puts a lot of stress on my back." That's not to say Furyk won't be busy. He will be engaging with sponsors and fans every day, helping out more with tournament operations and appearing on Golf Channel's broadcast each day. Furyk began working with Golf Channel last March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and has since been an analyst at The Players and the Masters. He's looking forward to helping showcase the Ocean Course, a Jack Nicklaus design that includes sweeping oceanside

ESPN has mixed opinions on where Florida will play its bowl game
Florida football spent a week in the thick of the College Football Playoff discussion. However, after a systematic collapse on the road against Missouri on Saturday, the Gators have fallen out of the top 12 and back with the rest of the postseason pack, according to many publications. Among those who have demoted Florida from CFP contention are ESPN writers Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach, whose bowl game projections now have the Gators headed to a pair of in-state venues for December matchups. Much like in some of his previous predictions, Schlabach is fixed on Florida taking on SMU — a school UF has split its four prior meetings with — in the Gator Bowl held in Jacksonville. The Mustangs have won both games between the two schools played on a neutral field, with a 35-25 victory in 1978 (Orlando) and a 21-14 triumph in 1972 (Tampa), while the Gators prevailed in Gainesville in 1964, 24-8, and 1975, 40-14. Florida has played in the Gator Bowl nine times dating back to 1952, with seven wins over that span. The last time UF participated in the in-state event was in 2012 during Will Muschamp's first season on the sidelines, beating Ohio

Ocean, Wind and Pressure: Hammock Beach Awaits PGA Tour Champions
At the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, a new home brings a new kind of pressure: four oceanfront closing holes where a victory can vanish in the wind. Beginning Oct. 9, the PGA Tour Champions event will make its first appearance at Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa after five years in Jacksonville. The move is more than a 60-mile trip south. It brings the tournament to one of Florida’s most distinctive golf settings: a Jack Nicklaus Signature design whose closing stretch, the Bear Claw, becomes every bit as formidable as its name when the wind picks up.

Blue-chip flip target is 'really happy' for FSU after beating Virginia
The FSU Seminoles are trying to flip 2028 four-star offensive tackle Omari Lawson from the Syracuse Orange, and they certainly have the attention of the Jacksonville, Florida product. He has been committed to the Orange since October of 2025, but his recruitment has taken off this year. The Seminoles offered him a scholarship on Sept. 11 and got him back on campus this weekend for their game against the Virginia Cavaliers. It was FSU's best performance of the season, and it has Lawson excited to see what they can do moving forward. "Honestly, I'm really happy for them," he told Zach Blostein of 247Sports . " Florida State played a great game and earned the win. It was a big time atmosphere, and being there made it even better. I'm excited to see what they do moving forward." Lawson is ranked the No. 119 overall player and No. 15 offensive tackle in the 247Sports composite. He is also the No. 15 player from Florida. The Seminoles are far from the only school trying to flip the 6-foot-6, 260-pounder, who can't sign with Syracuse for over a year.
