Big fifth sends Wildcats over Panthers
PAULDING – A five-run fifth inning by visiting Kalida proved to be the difference as the Wildcats doubled up host Paulding 8-4 Monday night in high school baseball play. Leading 1-0 entering the fifth, Kalida plated five runs in the visitors half of the fifth to extend the margin to 6-0.
Vikings blanked by Lancers
MIDDLE POINT — Lincolnview used a solid pitching performance Friday night to defeat Leipsic 5-0 in Northwest Conference action. Luke Bollenbacher went the distance for the Lancers allowing just two hits with nine strikeouts. The performance allowed the Lancers to claim at-least a share of the NWC title as both teams entered the game undefeated in conference play.
Pirates rally for PCL win
MILLER CITY — Continental scored three times in the seventh inning Tuesday to defeat Miller City 4-2 in a key Putnam County League game. The Pirates trailed 2-1 going to the seventh inning before their first two batters in the inning reached to start their comeback.

Recently American Legion Post 63 made a $4,000.00 donation toward the purchase of Dugout Fences at Memorial Field in Ottawa. “The dugout fence enhances the space inside both dugouts. The players can put their equipment in the dugout and literally walk out of the dugout to lean on the fence and watch the game. The fence also provides safety for the players, coaches, and trainers,” says OG High School Head Coach Nick Watkins.
Elwer’s no-hitter leads St. John’s past Ayersville in sectional finals
AYERSVILLE — Sectional final action heated up as the #5 seed St. John’s Blue Jays (13-12) clashed with the #3 seed Ayersville Pilots (11-12) on Thursday afternoon. Sophomore Cameron Elwer commanded the mound Thursday afternoon, pitching a no-hitter with 7 strikeouts and an impressive 66 strikes on 105 pitches. The Blue Jays capitalized on early scoring opportunities, orchestrating a sequence in the third inning with a walk to Braylon Metzger, a clutch hit from Collin Feathers and a skillfully executed bunt via error by TJ Werts to take a 2-0 lead.
Miller City defeats Holgate
MILLER CITY — Miller City grabbed an early lead Tuesday night and finished strong in defeating Holgate 12-2 in a six inning Division IV sectional final contest. The win sends the Wildcats (14-6) to a Division IV sectional final contest Thursday opposite top seeded Leipsic at 5 p.m. at Leipsic. The Wildcats, who have won six straight games, are the seventh seed in the Patrick Henry district.

KALIDA — Kalida jumped out to an early lead Thursday night in a 7-0 Putnam County League win over Continental. In a game moved from the Pirates home field to Kalida due to weather (rain), the Wildcats jumped out to a quick lead scoring three times in the first inning.
Baseball Recap: Fort Jennings snaps three-game streak of wins on the road
It was a good run, but Fort Jennings unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 5-1 to the Patrick Henry Patriots. For Patrick Henry's part, Landon Johnson and Mack Hieber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Johnson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Hieber struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). Johnson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive pitching appearances. At the plate, Johnson scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Hieber scored a run while going 1-for-2.
