SF Lincoln blows out Omaha Central in SDHSAA football Week 5
Sioux Falls Lincoln has become synonymous with an explosive passing game and QB run game in recent years, but the 2026 squad has had to shift that a bit. Sure, Brody Schafer still has the arm talent to sling it with the best of them. But the Patriots have leaned heavily on the run recently. That came to a head in a 49-14 thrashing of Omaha Central (NE) on Friday, Sept. 25, with Lincoln running for 286 yards on 25 attempts. "It's tough to tackle No. 8 (Schafer)," Sioux Falls Lincoln head coach Jared Fredenburg said. "We got some quarterback run stuff in there, and Brody really did a nice job. The O-line, I thought, played really well for us." The Patriots' offense looks a lot different than in recent years, with fewer wide receivers on the field and a heavier backfield. That's resulted in fewer passing attempts and more pounding the rock, with Schafer throwing the ball just three times Friday night. "We knew it was going to be different because with Mikey Roach and Louison Akossi last year, that's two guys on the outside that run 10.7 100s," Fredenburg said. "When all else fails, we get one of

Jerrence Knoblock's hard-hitting with West Lyon pays off in Iowa offer
This story is part six of a series on the Des Moines Register’s top 10 Iowa high school football seniors. Each week until the end of the season, we will feature a different senior, showing readers a side of them that goes beyond the Friday night lights. INWOOD — Jerrence Knoblock crouches into a stance, places a tented hand on the ground and waits for his coach to blow the whistle. The 6-foot-6, 220-pound defensive lineman runs through drills in a grass lot across the road from a cornfield, and – in the 85-degree temperatures, with 71% humidity – the West Lyon football players work up a sweat even without donning pads. He bursts off the line, and then does it again and again – getting to the quarterback with ease, being the disruptive player that Wildcats fans have come to expect, even during a practice. That's typical of Knoblock's approach to the game, though. "Be the best you can be in high school, and the rest will take care of itself," Knoblock said. And he might be on to something, because his hard work in high school did, in fact, pay off. Football is a way of life in

Resetting 2026 South Dakota HS football state champion predictions
Predicting state champions before a game is played is never an easy task, and it can open you up to looking like a fool if a few things don't work out. Luckily, most of the preseason predictions in South Dakota have held up well. But that doesn't mean everything is exactly the same. So with the midpoint of the 2026 SDHSAA football season coming this week, Argus Leader sports reporter Paul Cifonelli reset those predictions with the data points we currently have. Class 11AAA Midseason Prediction: Sioux Falls Jefferson defeats Brandon Valley Preseason Prediction: Sioux Falls Lincoln defeats Sioux Falls Jefferson This may feel like recency bias given the two teams squared off in Week 4, but it had all the makings of a game that will happen again for all the marbles. Jefferson has proven to be a dominant team on both sides of the ball, with an explosive and deep receiver room, a two-QB system that works well and the top defense in the state. Brandon Valley has been equally dominant defensively, but the offense needed a couple big plays to hang in there with the Cavaliers. The notable omission from the preseason prediction is the champion, Lincoln.
