How small business owners in Hamden can earn up to $12.5K in federal grants

HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) – Hamden town officials Thursday announced they’re giving out $200,000 in small business grants thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act.

The grant program aims to celebrate the contributions of small businesses and the challenges they overcame during the coronavirus pandemic- all during Small Business Month this May.

The program is funded with federal assistance from the U.S. Department of Treasury under the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). It will be managed by Hamden’s Department of Economic and Community Development.

Eligible businesses can earn a grant up to $12,500 for eligible expenses.

To qualify, businesses must be based in Hamden, open since 2019, and able to show proof of a negative economic impact from the pandemic.

Applications are open now through 4 p.m. on May 31.

Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce President Nancy Dudchik said they’re excited to partner with the Town of Hamden and the Hamden Economic Development Commission to help local businesses.

“Many businesses continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, and can certainly put to good use these ARPA grants. The Chamber looks forward and will continue to support the effort of the Town in making sure our local businesses are aware of the available funds,” Dudchik said in a statement Thursday.
