Former Emma Samson High School and Southside High School football coach Scott Rickles passed away last Tuesday. Rickles, 52, was the last coach of Emma Samson before it consolidated to form Gadsden City High School, where he served as an assistant. He coached the Rebels for two seasons, 2004-05 going 10-11. He would become an assistant at Gadsden City before taking the head football coach and athletic director job at Southside. He coached there for four years from 2007-10 going 13-28.

PINSON, Ala. (WBRC) - A Fort Payne man was killed in a single-vehicle crash April 26 in Pinson. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Carl Stanley McMurrey of Fort Payne. He was 67. The crash happened in the 6700 block of Highway 79 in Pinson.

Smaller runway to be decommissioned at Northeast Alabama Regional Airport
The Northeast Alabama Regional Airport is about to have one less runway and a bunch more opportunities, according to city officials. The City Council on Tuesday signed off on the Gadsden Airport Authority's decision earlier this year to decommission Runway 18-36 at the airport. Council approval is required since the city is the authority's partner on the facility.
