New mayors, council for Basin, Burlington and Manderson

Basin, Burlington and Manderson each will have a new mayor in 2027. Of the three offices, only Basin had a race with more than one candidate. Basin’s Chuck Hopkin received 222 votes to Carl Olson’s 213 votes. Hopkin is currently on the town council. Olson has been a councilman in the past. There were four write-in votes and 15 undervotes.

Allen Hogg of Meeteetse will be the new State Representative for Wyoming’s House District 28. Unofficial results show that Hogg received a total of 3308 votes in the four counties he will represent. BILLINGS, Mont. — While trunk-or-treats and organized Halloween events give families across Montana more ways to celebrate, one Billings neighborhood is keeping the traditional door-to-door experience alive. Clark Avenue is once again preparing to welcome thousands of trick-or-treaters Saturday night. For the residents who live there, making the night happen takes months of planning, thousands of pieces of candy and hundreds of dollars. Ross and Kari Davidson are among the many families preparing for the crowds. Their goal every Halloween is to have about 5,000 pieces of candy ready for trick-or-treaters. But with candy prices climbing nationwide, they’ve had to make a few adjustments this year. According to federal inflation data, the cost of candy and chewing gum increased 7.7% in September compared to the same time last year. “I aim for 5,000 pieces of candy. And this year I did a little more non-chocolate just because chocolate was a lot more expensive,” Ross Davidson said. “So, the kids don’t seem to care one way or the other, but that seems to last the whole, like, three, three and a half hours.” The Davidsons start shopping as soon as Halloween candy hits store shelves, spreading out their purchases over a

Licensed counselor in Billings sentenced for Medicaid fraud

HELENA, Mont. – A licensed professional counselor in Billings was sentenced to spend three years in prison and repay $600,000 for years of fraudulent Medicaid bills related to sessions that “did not occur,” the Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen announced. A judge found her guilty on October 22 and sentenced her for “Medicaid fraud” and “making a false claim to a public agency.” Her crimes were connected to actions between January 2022 and September 2025, when she billed Medicaid for sessions with “patients she never treated and for sessions that did not occur,” Knudsen wrote in a press release about her sentencing. She was sentenced to pay the state $603,719.66 in restitution and serve a 10-year suspended sentence after completing her three-year prison term at the Montana Women’s Prison. She is also excluded from billing any federal health insurance program for the length of the sentence.
