LETTER: Minutes matter in an emergency; I'm voting yes for Gresham's safety levy

I own a restaurant in Gresham. My wife, son and I live in Gresham in a home we own. We shop in Gresham, use the public school system here of which I am a board member. These are very compelling reasons to support the fire and policy levy that is on the May ballot.

I want our employees to be safe and feel safe coming and going to work. I want my son to learn that driving is a privilege that comes with the responsibility to know and follow the rules. And I want my home value to go up and my insurance rates to go down.

Do I want to pay more taxes? Not my first choice. But I will gladly pay higher taxes on my home and at work if it means I will benefit from quicker responses from police and fire.

Having experienced medical emergencies personally and with our customers, I echo “minutes matter.”

My wife and I are going to vote yes on the levy to ensure our city is going in the right direction toward protecting us 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

    David Ligatich, Gresham
