A 17-year-old Gresham resident was arrested Tuesday evening, April 9, for allegedly kidnapping his girlfriend and shooting at concerned members of her family.

The incident began just after 7:30 p.m. A 911 caller reported that a teen had taken his girlfriend from her workplace against her will. When members of the victim’s family tried to stop the kidnapping, the suspect shot at them and drove away.

Gresham Police began tracking the vehicle as the suspect drove out of Gresham. A Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputy located the vehicle near Dodge Park, in a rural area of Clackamas County. When the deputy attempted to stop the car, the suspect fled.

After a nearly 6-mile pursuit, the suspect drove off the road near Barlow High into a wooded area, where he attempted to flee on foot. A Gresham Police drone monitored from above, and East Metro SWAT took the suspect into custody upon arrival.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The suspect had a few cuts and scrapes from running through thick brush.

He is facing charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, and several other crimes relating to domestic violence.
