New renderings show how historic Ritz Theatre could look after rehab
The Ritz Theatre Inc. shared new architectural renderings of how the historic Corpus Christi landmark could look after a planned rehabilitation and addition. The theater, which dates to 1929, has sat empty since 1989, deteriorating. Now, the organization plans to return the building to its former glory, opening up the lobby, repainting the interior of the theater to match its earlier design and adding a new event center/ballroom space in the empty lot alongside it. "For years, people have talked about what The Ritz could become," The Ritz Theatre Inc. Executive Director Art Seago said in a news release. "These renderings allow our community to begin to see it. We are preserving the history and character that make The Ritz special while creating a venue that will serve Corpus Christi and South Texas in ways this building never could before." The Ritz Theatre Inc., which plans to reopen The Ritz in 2029, when it would be 100 years old, envisions the space hosting live entertainment, theater, concerts, movies, educational programs, community events, and private events and rentals. The addition would include a large event space, a commercial kitchen, bars, a cafe, a VIP lounge and additional gathering spaces. Gignac Architects

Harbor Playhouse's 'The Addams Family' is a monster hit
When I think of "The Addams Family," my mind immediately goes to the 1991 and 1993 films. So, when I heard that Harbor Playhouse was putting on a production about the spooky family, I was expecting something from those beloved movies. While the musical has nothing to do with the films, its story is hilarious and heartwarming and will have you snapping your fingers as often as you can. The comedic musical tells the story of how Wednesday Addams, portrayed by Riley Spencer, gets engaged to her "normal" boyfriend and realizes both families now have to meet if they want the approval of their parents. Meanwhile, Uncle Fester falls in love with the moon, Pugsley has reservations about his older sister getting married, both families keep secrets from each other and an occasional puppet pops up. Fall is here: Find your pick at these Corpus Christi area pumpkin patches Characters include the Addams family, the Beineke family (Wednesday's boyfriend's clan) and the spirits of the Addams' ancestors. There were several thespians who really stuck out to me. Lilli Hinojosa as Morticia was sultry and commanding whenever she took the stage. Hanna Prince, portraying Pugsley, will have you wiping away tears
