Women in Business: Sisters create joyful, mom-and-daughter clothing line

The styles from Briton Court are bright, fun, and engaging, which is not at all surprising once you meet the women behind the brand. Stephe Ebert, Kristina Teague and Jenny Hall are sisters, and each is successful in their own right. When they combine forces, the result is something extra special.

Briton Court offers clothing for women and girls that features bold, custom prints that inspire joy.

“We started in 2022, wholesale,” Ebert, the oldest of the three, says. “Prior to starting our wholesale division, we launched a private label in Vann & Liv, which is Kristina’s store, and in Harringtons, which is Jenny's store.”

The three teamed up for a capsule collection of mom-and-daughter designs that they planned to sell in their retail locations, but a post from a social media influencer meant sales skyrocketed, items sold out, and requests came in from other retail outlets.

Ebert’s background was on the wholesale side of apparel with Southern Tide, while Kristina and Jenny had their feet firmly planted in their thriving retail stores.

“And we just kind of put it all together,” Ebert says. “It became Briton Court, which is actually named after the street that we grew up on.”

Teague started working in retail at Plaza Suite, a boutique in Greenville, when she was 15 years old.

“After Stephe and I had our daughters, we wanted to bring a little more of a modern style for kids to the area because everything was very traditional and classic, so we wanted to offer something different,” Teague says. “We started Vann & Liv as an online store, and several years later, we opened our first brick and mortar.”

Hall says she also always had the dream of opening a store. After having her daughter in 2020, she faced a crossroads: return to marketing for a software company or find a way to make her dream happen.

The sisters’ paths have branched and crossed and connected in wonderful ways in adulthood. The three share Briton Court, with Ebert handling much of the brand’s day-to-day operations.

Those days on Briton Court planted the seeds of where they are today.

“I think we were all under the age of 10, and we literally lived in my mom's closet, like we would try on all of her shoes and try on all of her dresses, and we always loved retail,” Ebert says. “In high school and in college, our friends would always come to pick out their outfits to wear out from our closet, so it's just something that we always loved. And I guess that started when we were little girls.”
