GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) – It was a day of celebration in Greenville Thursday as work began on a new entertainment venue.

An old building along Rhett Street in Greenville will soon become Trueline . It’ll be a hub for music lovers, drawing artists from across the country.

The venue hosted a groundbreaking ceremony where city leaders, investors, and the community came out to see what’s in store.

“Just the look on people’s faces when they see this place when we are done,” Trueline founder Michael Grozier said. “I think it is really going to be an exciting, stunning little creative jewel box here in the West End .”

Even big-name artists traveled back to their roots to see what the buzz was all about.

“The South Carolina story told through music, I think, is extremely important and having something tangible here in the state to where people can come and kind of understand that story and hear that story I think is very important,” country music star Josh Turner said.

Another artist from the Upstate said a venue of this caliber in Greenville is life changing for artists and the community.

Grammy-nominated artist Marcus King reflected on the time when he ran around the city just trying to make a name for himself.

“We played everywhere that we could, every spot that we could get in and fit in we would play,” King said. “Coming back to Greenville is just, you know…[there’s] nothing like coming home.”

City leaders said Trueline will aid in the transformation of Greenville’s West End, turning it into a true entertainment district.

They hope it keeps people right here in the area and attracts guests from all over.

“This is more than just a music venue opening in Greenville,” Greenville Mayor Knox White said. “This is really a big step forward in the evolution of our downtown and our city. It is going to mean, for a lot of people, they don’t have to go to Asheville or Athens for a great music scene. They can stay right here in the West End of Greenville.”

Grozier said the venue will be two stories, with many features and special amenities. It’s set to hold just under 2,000 people.

“It looks like it is going to be a pretty awesome atmosphere, looks like it is going to be a lot of fun,” said musician John Berry.

“Oh my gosh, this is so awesome being here today,” musician Mike Roger said. “I love it. This venue is amazing. For live music and entertainment this is going to be awesome.”

Community members said they cant wait to come back and have some fun.

The $13 million entertainment venue is set to open in 2025.
