Trey Yesavage baffled hitters again on Friday as the East Carolina ace overpowered Memphis in a 14-0 win on Friday.

The right-hander was one out from a no-hitter before allowing a two-out single in the seventh inning of the Pirates’ run-rule, seven-inning victory in the first game of their American Atheltic Conference series.

The Pirates’ right-hander stuck out 12 batters with two walks and one hit that came with two outs in the seventh inning. It was his fourth consecutive start with at least 11 strikeouts.

Yesavage (9-1) allowed one or fewer hits for the second time in his past three starts — all wins — as the No. 7 Pirates cruised to their 33rd win.

ECU (33-8, 12-4) extended its winning streak to six games and moved into first place in the AAC as Rice defeated UTSA, 9-8, to drop the Roadrunners into second place in the conference.

Memphis (18-24, 6-10) collected its lone hit on the first pitch of the at-bat. ECU’s Jackson DiLorenzo took over after the no-hitter ended and got the final out of the game on a swinging strikeout.

Carter Cunningham went 3-for-4 with two doubles, one home run and five RBIs, while teammate Jacob Jenkins-Cowart went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Jacob Starling, playing in his second game after missing 12 with an oblique injury, homered to lead off a seven-run second inning.

The Pirates scored seven runs on seven hits in the second, added three runs in the fourth and capped the blowout win with four runs in the top of the seventh.

Ryley Johnson extended his on-base streak to 39 games and his hitting streak to 14 games with a double and two RBIs. The Pirates scored in double figures for the fourth consecutive game and have scored at least 10 runs in 10 straight games.
