A 22-year-old Ayden man has been arrested in connection to a Greenville man's death two years ago, the city police department said.

Officers charged David Infitar Tarrant, 22, 370 Thad Little Road, with an open count of murder in the death of William Christopher Rushing, 36.

Police found Rushing dead on March 24, 2022, in a grassy area at the 3900 block of Vancroft Circle near Honor Ridge, an affordable housing complex for veterans.

Police said at the time that Rushing was transient and did not have a known connection to the area where his body was found. The death was initially labeled suspicious but later designated a homicide.

Vital records show that Rushing was killed by multiple blunt force head injuries. They also show he was a music producer and list his address on Rackley Drive, in the northern reaches of Greenville off of Staton House Road.

The release said that detectives initially had "very few leads" in the case but that recent information led to a break in the case and Tarrant being developed as the primary suspect.

Additional arrests are possible.

Tarrant was jailed without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center.
