TARBORO, N.C. (WNCT) — A Greenville man is facing numerous charges after Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office officials said he sped past a deputy, crashed and was involved in a foot chase before being found and arrested.

On Tuesday, Zachary Alexander Harvey, 23, of the 3000 block of Kingston Circle, Greenville, was charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a felon
  • Possession weapon of mass destruction
  • Felony flee to elude
  • Failure to heed light and siren

He was given a $100,000 secured bond and remanded to the Edgecombe County Detention Center.

Officials said a deputy saw a vehicle pass him going over 80 mph on Hwy. 64 Bypass heading east. As the deputy turned on his lights, a chase began that reached speeds of 100 mph. The driver took the 486 exit to Mutual Boulevard and crashed shortly after, colliding with a mailbox.

A foot pursuit ensued, and the sheriff’s office K-9 unit and Edgecombe County Emergency Services drone were deployed. After an extensive search, Harvey was taken into custody near the initial search without incident.
