    PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Rebels Reach District Title Game

    The South Greene Lady Rebels reached the District 1-2A softball championship game with a 12-6 win over the West Greene Lady Buffaloes in the semifinals on Tuesday.

    South Greene, now 17-8, will host Johnson County in the championship game at 5 p.m. Thursday. West Greene’s season ends at 8-15.

    In Tuesday’s win, the Lady Rebels scored three runs in the first inning and four in the second.

    South Greene’s Kortnei Bailey went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI; Haven Carter was 3-for-4 with three RBI; Madison Hensley was 2-for-2 with an RBI; Paisley Brobeck had a hit and an RBI; and Whitney Reaves and Nevaeh Davis each had a hit.

    Kaylee Whitson went the distance in the circle for the win. In seven innings, she gave up six hits, walked none and struck out one. One of West Greene’s runs was earned.

    West Greene’s Hayley Arnold went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Addison Peters had a solo home run, Aubree Everett had a triple, Alexis Cutshall had a hit and two RBI, and Morgan Brown had a hit.

    Johnson County 15 Chuckey-Doak 3

    MOUNTAIN CITY — The Lady Knights’ season ended in the District 1-2A softball tournament loss on Tuesday.

    The Longhorns pulled away with 13 runs in the third inning.

    Chuckey-Doak’s Hailey Foshie went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Hayleigh Taylor was 2-for-3 and Faith Yokley was 2-for-2.

    Chuckey-Doak ends the season at 6-19. Johnson County advances to the championship game at 5 p.m. Thursday at South Greene.

    North Greene 5 University 0

    ELIZABETHTON — Matti Phillips and Hannah Brooks combined on the shutout in the circle as North Greene won its opening game in the District 1-A softball tournament on Tuesday at Unaka High School.

    Phillips drew the start and pitched six innings for the win. She gave up three hits, walked four and struck out six.

    Brooks tossed the seventh inning. She walked one and struck out one.

    Phillips also homered and had two RBI. Loren Blevins was 2-for-3 with an RBI for North Greene, Abby Parker had a hit and an RBI, and Haley Bailey had a hit.

    North Greene, now 11-8, will play Cloudland in a winners bracket game at 7 p.m. Thursday.

    SOCCER Greeneville 8 Cherokee 0

    Greeneville opened the District 2-2A soccer tournament with a shutout over Cherokee on Tuesday at Burley Stadium.

    Simon Holt scored the first goal at minute six, followed by a David Fisher goal, assisted by Austin Beets, at minute 31. Samuel Gourley made it 3-0 at halftime on an assist from Brody Inscore.

    Greeneville added five goals by Inscore at minute 49, Fisher at minute 55, Inscore at minute 61, Liam Polte at minute 65 and Beets at minute 76.

    The Devils will play Grainger in the district championship match at 6 p.m. Thursday at Burley Stadium.
