ROGERSVILLE — Behind the arm of Carson Quillen and the bat of Colton Richards, the Greeneville Greene Devils run ruled the Cherokee Chiefs 14-0 in five innings on Monday.

Quillen drew the start and tossed 4 1/3 innings. He gave up one hit, walked one and struck out six.

“We came here and took care of business,” Greeneville coach Andy Collins said. “We did what we needed to do. Of course, Carson was good on the mound and Noah (Murray) was good behind the plate. (Quillen) was doing the same thing he always does, throwing strikes. He had a little giddy-up today and I think that helped a little bit.”

Richards went 4-for-4 with three doubles and five RBI.

“His hits came in pressure situations where we had runners on, and that’s what we want,” Collins said. “We want to set the table for (Quillen and Richards) and we’ll see what (opponents) are going to do against them.”

Greeneville jumped to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Richards and a two-run single by Murray.

Greeneville finished with 16 hits. Murray went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI, Connor Ireland was 3-for-4, Kaine Ricker was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Quillen was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Will Harmon was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Carson Norris was 1-for-3.

Sam Thompson pitched the final two outs for Greeneville, striking out one.

Greeneville improves to 13-8 overall and 7-1 in District 2-3A.

“Day to day,” Collins said about Greeneville’s approach. “It’s how we play this game. These guys come to work, day to day, and that’s what we want to keep hammering. We don’t look ahead. Tomorrow is a JV game, so that’s what we’re jacked about now, just getting to play baseball again.”
