A Woodville tradition returns. What to know about the annual Memorial Day Parade
It’s become a Memorial Day tradition for me over the past 25 years or so: wake up with my usual Monday morning alarm at 6:20 a.m., fix myself a cappuccino — as close to coffee as I get — maybe check a few emails or do a little crochet, then head to the barn to do chores. Once the animals are contentedly munching their hay, I head into town to meet up with a few of “my” 4-H kids at Veterans Park to place American flags along the sidewalk for the ceremony that will happen a little later in the morning.
History Spotlight: 1913 Fremont flood recovery
The large A.H. Jackson Manufacturing Company is seen in this Finch photo on South Front Street drying out after the 1913 flood. Notice the huge pile of boots and shoes in front of the Bargain Shop offered at "Cut Rate." The main part of the Jackson factory, which later became Montgomery Ward, was torn down in 1977 for parking. The Brady Building beyond the furniture sign still remains, now with a mural on the side. The last building was the old Hafford Carriage Works that stood on the northeast corner of Birchard Avenue.
