Cosby scores Cooper Era-best 62 points at Unaka in Region 1-1A rout
ELIZABETHTON — Through the first three weeks of the season, the Cosby High School football team’s offensive output was fairly strong, with the Eagles eclipsing 30 points twice and finding success both through the air and on the ground. Friday’s Week 4 contest showed the unit has another gear. In the opening Region 1-1A contest for both teams, Cosby piled up the points in a 62-8 victory at Unaka, setting a new single-game best during the tenure of fourth-year head coach Levi Cooper. The Eagles previously scored 60 on the Rangers in Elizabethton in 2024. Cosby has its third straight 1-0 start to region play and back-to-back wins for the first time on the young season, moving to 3-1 overall. “I thought we came out and executed at a really high level in all three phases,” Cooper said. The Eagles did all of their damage in just the first half, tallying their highest score since a 63-47 win versus Hancock County on Sept. 19, 2014, in Cosby. “It was a really clean half,” Cooper said. “It afforded us the opportunity to play every guy on the roster tonight. We got those guys in and got them a ton of reps.
