West Grand athlete breaks 53-year-old school record in hurdles
West Grand High School junior Joe Probst competed at the Western Slope Leagues meet championships on May 4. In the 110-meter hurdles, he beat his own personal record — and a school record held since 1971. Probst’s time was 14.68, beating the 53-year-old record of 14.8, held by Gary O’Hotto.

Homeowners who lost homes in the Marshall Fire can now get more money back from the state for sales tax on building materials. The Colorado Department of Revenue’s Sales Tax Refund for Rebuilding after a Declared Wildfire Disaster program lets homeowners who lost their homes in a qualified wildfire disaster get a refund on the state sales and use tax paid for construction and building materials used to rebuild their home.

Longmont’s ‘March for Childcare’ calls for more early childhood education
The Early Childhood Council of Boulder County will hold a “March for Childcare” event on Saturday in downtown Longmont. Community leaders and care providers will speak to the crowd at Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Ave., from 9:15 to 10 a.m. about the need for more access to early childhood education. Speeches will be followed by a rally and march that’s scheduled to last until 10:30 a.m.
Man killed by falling tree at Colorado mountain resort
A 52-year-old Eldora Mountain Resort staff member died on Thursday morning following a tragic accident. According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, the male staff member was assisting with trail maintenance at the Nederland-area destination when a tree fell on top of him at about 10 a.m., resulting in life-threatening injuries. Eldora Mountain Resort staff member killed by falling tree
A staff member at Eldora Mountain Resort in Colorado was killed when a tree fell on him. The 52-year-old man was doing trail maintenance at the ski resort in Boulder County on Thursday when the tree fell on him, causing life-threatening injuries. According to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, ski patrol immediately performed medical care while the Flight for Life Colorado helicopter was en route. Unfortunately, the man died while aid was being rendered. The man's identity has not been released. Eldora Mountain Resort is about 50 miles northwest of Denver.
