Thunderstorms wielding heavy rainfall to hit NCWV Wednesday night
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) - Today was a hot day, with many lowland areas making a run for 90 degrees. Higher elevations didn’t see temperatures getting as warm thanks to thunderstorm development. While thunderstorms stayed confined to the mountains today, that will not be the case tomorrow. A cold front is on its way towards us from the west, and will be pushing a lot of heavy rain and thunderstorm activity into our area over the course of Wednesday, though nighttime will see it the worst. Storms won’t be too severe from a standpoint of wind or hail, but heavy rainfall poses a risk of isolated high water issues across NCWV. Some of this shower activity will linger into early Thursday morning, but besides that, the only other showers we’ll see on Thursday will be in the afternoon along the actual cold front. These showers will be very brief. Since this front won’t cross until later in the afternoon, temperatures will likely reach around average (low 80s lowlands, low/mid-70s mountains). However, cooler temps will become more apparent on Friday, where lowlands will struggle to reach the mid-70s and mountains will peak in the mid-60s. Expect temperatures to stay around this level for the weekend and beginning of next week. Less rain is expected for Friday and the weekend, though stray showers are possible, particularly on Sunday.
