A 26 year old woman is dead and the man who is alleged to have killed her is at large following a shooting last night outside an apartment complex last night in Fort Dodge. At just before 10 pm last night the Webster County Telecommunications Center received multiple calls of shots fired in the area of the 700 block 7th.
Iowa authorities searching for Fort Dodge homicide suspect
FORT DODGE, Iowa (WOWT) - The Iowa Department of Public Safety and Fort Dodge Police Department are searching for the man wanted for a Thursday night homicide. Fort Dodge Police said authorities received multiple calls of shots fired in the 700 block of 7th Avenue North just before 10 p.m. Officers arrived to find an unresponsive female in a parking lot. Life-saving measures were unsuccessful and the female was pronounced dead.
Cause from a Fire Near Rippey Has Been Determined
The cause for a fire on Tuesday, March 21st near Rippey has been determined. Grand Junction Fire Chief Bret Kersey was the incident commander during a fire on March 21st that brought ten area fire departments to 2302 U Avenue, west of Rippey. Fire crews responded at 5:22pm to three outbuildings that were on fire. All of the structures were destroyed but the primary residence was not damaged. There was no one in the structures at the time of the fire and no one was injured.
Two Juveniles Charged With A Class D Felony In Connection To A Burglary In Jefferson
Two juveniles have been charged with a class D felony in connection to a reported break-in in Jefferson. According to the Jefferson Police Department, on March 20, a 12-year-old and 13-year-old male allegedly broke into the Webb House in the 300 block of South Wilson Avenue in Jefferson. Law enforcement says their investigation found the juveniles had caused approximately $500 in damages to the building while $600 worth of goods were stolen. The juveniles are charged with third-degree burglary, a class D felony, fourth-degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor, and fourth-degree theft, a serious misdemeanor. The Jefferson Police Department forwarded the charges to Juvenile Court for processing.

Public House, Why Not Us Awarded State Grants for Upper Story Housing
Two housing projects were recently awarded grants from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The Public House, located at 123 Chestnut Street, was announced as one of the recipients of a state Historical Preservation Tax Credit grant of $582,696 from the Iowa Economic Development Authority. The grant funds will be used for renovating the six upper story apartments as low to moderate income. The Historic Preservation Tax Credit is a grant that is from income tax credits and given to projects that rehabilitate historic buildings and preserve the character-defining features of the structure and ultimately improve the surrounding neighborhood and community.
Tornadoes is the Focus for Day Three of Severe Weather Awareness Week
It’s the third day of Severe Weather Awareness Week and today’s focus is on tornadoes. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio when a tornado warning is issued within the county, they will set off the severe weather sirens for that area. Then once the siren is activated, Williams says it will sound continuously for 1-3 minutes and then shut-off. He advises that if you hear the sirens to head indoors and go to the basement or the lowest part of the building you are in, preferably a room without windows. Williams describes what motorists should do if they hear the sirens and are on the road.

Covid Pandemic Seemingly Coming to an End in the US
The United States is getting closer to seeing the end of the covid pandemic. Greene County Public Health Director Becky Wolf says May 11th is when the federal emergency proclamation is set to end, which has been in place since 2019 when the covid pandemic began. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio things like reporting positive cases, having access to a portal for public health agencies and the covid tracker on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website will stop on May 11th and instead covid numbers will be included with all other respiratory illnesses on a weekly basis. Wolf sees this as a positive sign moving forward.

Grand Junction Fire and Rescue to Host Fish Fry Fundraiser Tomorrow
A Greene County fire department is hosting a fundraiser tomorrow. The Grand Junction Fire and Rescue is having their 2nd Annual Fish Fry tomorrow starting at 5:30pm at the fire station. The meal is $10 per person and includes two pieces of breaded cod fish, along with fries, coleslaw, tea or lemonade. Anyone five and younger can eat for free and individuals 21 and older can purchase beer for $3 per can.
Greene County Area Easter Egg Hunts Announced
Greene County has a few Easter egg hunts coming up. The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is partnering with the Jefferson Kiwanis Club to host its Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow, with check-ins starting at 3:30pm and the hunt to begin at 4pm at the Greene County Community Center.
