Port Hueneme Pier closed for high surf, weather

(This story has been updated Oct. 12 with additional information from the city.) The Port Hueneme Pier was closed as of 10:30 a.m. Oct. 11 because of high surf and weather conditions. The Port Hueneme Police Department posted the notice to social media but provided no other details about the closure. "Please use caution along the Ventura County coastline during this advisory period," the post says. The National Weather Service in Oxnard did issue a coastal flood advisory, the second of four levels issued for possible flooding risk, for Ventura County that was expected to remain in effect until Monday or Tuesday . The weather service described the advisory as flooding that was not expected to be bad although could be a significant inconvenience. Locals should "be aware." To the south, Los Angeles County received the higher coastal flood warning, level three of four, meaning flooding was either imminent or happening. The agency also said areas expected to experience damaging sea-water flooding were likely to be Long Beach, Avalon and Malibu. The highest risk was predicted for high tide at 9:49 a.m. Oct. 11 when the tide would be between 7.5 feet to 8 feet above and at 10:13 a.m.

Another warm up ahead, Monday Oct 12th forecast

An very dynamic and interesting weather day as two different systems move across the West Coast. All of our recent focus has centered around Tropical Cyclone Rachel, but Pacific cold front has also brought in cool and blustery weather from the north. Most areas did see a few clouds from Rachel as the ex hurricane weakens and slowly pushes to our northeast. Rain from that storm stayed pretty far to our south and again, our weather was more dominated by the cool, breezy to gusty winds coming in from the northwest. For the overnight and in to early Monday, we still have enough remnant moisture from Rachel to keep a light rain chance going through early Monday. It will stay on the cool to mild side and large surf from many different swells will keep our coastline under flood watch criteria through at least Monday.
