Long-anticipated Jollibee sets October opening in Oxnard
A Filipino fried chicken chain will make its introduction in Ventura County with its grand opening on Oct. 28. Jollibee plans to welcome customers in a shop attached to the existing Seafood City Supermarket at2340 N. Rose Ave., according to Winsleth Dizon, general manager for the new location. The restaurant specializes in fried chicken, pies and sandwiches paired with unique sides such as spaghetti. Company VIPs and other invited guest will join a priest to bless the store the day before its grand opening, Dizon said. Plans for the chicken chain opening in Oxnard have been in the works since the supermarket first opened at the former Babies R Us in 2023 , but had been slow to materialize. Jollibee joins an increasingly crowded field of chicken spots across Ventura County. In January 2025, Dave's Hot Chicken opened in the Esplanade Shopping Center Oxnard, joining a sister location in Port Hueneme. Gordos Hot Chicken followed in February 2025 at the Collection in Oxnard. Angry Chickz, a Nashville hot chicken chain restaurant, opened in fall 2025 in Ventura. Review: Rubicon Theatre’s ‘Ragtime’ Brings an American Saga Up Close in Ventura
A century can change an extraordinary number of things, yet some of America’s most stubborn divisions have proved remarkably resistant to time. Rubicon Theatre Company’s Ragtime gives those conflicts a human face in a deeply moving, vocally magnificent staging that makes full use of the theater’s intimacy. Directed by J. Scott Lapp, the musical, which opens Rubicon’s 2026-27 season, continues in Ventura through November 15th. Here, the distance between an audience and the people confronting a nation’s prejudices is small enough to make their struggles feel uncomfortably immediate.

A substantial brick chimney rises through the center of Carl Maston’s Ventura beach house, giving the oceanfront home a surprisingly grounded heart. Completed in 1984, the Susman House sits above a sandy cove at Faria Beach, with views toward the Channel Islands. Its original brief was appealingly specific: preserve the spirit of a traditional California cabin within a contemporary home.
