Jasper County Sheriff's Deputy Negotiator talked down a man from jumping off a bridge
Joplin, MO – Jasper County Sheriff's Deputies were alerted Saturday night at around 7:30 pm. to a man straddling a railing over the I-44 exit 13 of Prigmore Avenue. Officials say the man was experiencing a mental health emergency. Both lanes of traffic were diverted while the situation resumed. Officers spoke to the man from a distance and were able to get them away from the edge after about an hour. The man was not injured and was transported to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
Ash Grove Lady Pirates reach Final Four, championship
Wallop Bernie Lady Mules in semifinal, 17-4; played Concordia for state title. The Ash Grove High School Lady Pirates softball team defeated the Bernie High School Lady Mules at the semifinals for the Class 1 State Championship semifinals on Monday, May 20, at the Killian Sports Complex in Springfield to advance to the finals on Tuesday, May 21. The Lady Pirates defeated the Lady Mules, 17-4. The teams were tied early in the game. Ash Grove scored two runs at the top of the first inning, only to see Bernie pull ahead by scoring three runs at the bottom. The Lady Pirates then scored two more runs at the top of the second, but Bernie scored another run, tying both teams 4-4.

Sam Butcher, artist who created Precious Moments figurines of teardrop-eyed children, dies at 85
The artist who created the Precious Moments figurines depicting angelic teardrop-eyed children has died. Sam Butcher was 85. The company said in a Facebook post that he died early Monday surrounded by family. It said his life’s mission was “to share God’s gift of love with the world.” No details about his cause of death were provided. Thousands of designs have been produced over the decades, and fans of his work flock each year the Precious Moments Inspiration Park and Precious Moments Chapel in Carthage, Missouri.
