How Houma- and Thibodaux-area athletes fared in LHSAA state gymnastics championships
Five Houma- and Thibodaux-area athletes represented their schools at the LHSAA state gymnastics meet earlier this month. Each athlete in gymnastics can compete in up to four events: the vault, the uneven parallel bars, the balance beam, and the floor exercise. Each event is scored by the judges out of 10 possible points, and whoever scores the most points is the champion for that event. There's also an all-around championship for anyone who competes in all four events, scored out of 40 points. However, there's no such thing as overtime or extra innings in gymnastics, so in the event of a tie in any event or the all-around, everyone who tied is named a champion.
