Biglerville High School students share STEM projects
Biglerville HIgh School held its STEM Summit program on April 19. Originally scheduled for Feb. 13, the event was postponed due to inclement weather. Supported by Junior Achievement of South Central, the event included all 261 9th and 10th graders in the day-long activities designed to inspire students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
Gettysburg council discusses complicated and contentious issues
Navigating Gettysburg’s sidewalks can be tricky. Fixing the problem is equally challenging. During their workshop on Monday, the borough council focused on two of the many issues surrounding sidewalks – stormwater management and tree damage. They also discussed two other heavily debated topics — the town’s sign ordinance and reserved parking spaces.
Obituary: Mervin D. Weikert, Jr.
Mervin D. Weikert Jr. Biglerville PA entered Godâs eternal care Sunday, April 21, 2024 at home with his loving family by his side. Born August 5, 1933 in Two Taverns. The son of the late Mervin Sr and Katie (Breighner) Weikert. Merv was the loving husband of Helen F (Martin) Weikert with whom he shared 68 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Mervin D. Weikert III, Margaret A. Fredrikis and husband Mark, Susan R. Grunden and husband Kery and grandchildren Gavin Grunden and Gwendolyn Grunden.
Fairfield board moves towards tax increase
The Fairfield Area School Board plans to raise taxes by 3.63 percent this year. During their April 22 meeting, the board unanimously approved a $22 million preliminary budget proposal. The board expects to give the budget final approval on June 24. Business Manager Tim Stanton told the board the budget focuses on tackling deferred maintenance, building a three-year capital plan, and saving money for a possible expansion of the Adams County Technical Institute.

The Gettysburg Warriors Boys’ Lacrosse team entered Monday’s contest with their sights set on securing their second win of the season as they faced the 0 – 11 West York Bulldogs. While the rivalry has only been around for three seasons, the two squads have had historically physical encounters. The Bulldogs and Warriors filled the penalty sheet as the two squads combined for a season-high 15:30 in penalty minutes.
