Local track and field athletes compete at North Marion Twilight

Four local track and field teams competed at the North Marion Twilight on Friday, April 12, with Gervais, Kennedy and St. Paul making the trip to the Huskies’ first meet of the year.

The Kennedy girls’ team won the team title with ease, while the Gervais boys’ hung on to win the team title by eight points. Full team scores are below.

Champions

While plenty of athletes took to the field and rubber, only a select few stood above their peers.

North Marion’s Callie Cutsforth won the 1,500 meters in a personal best of 4 minutes, 57.87 seconds, and finished first in the 200 meters in 28.42. Kennedy’s Yulissa Chavez Cortes won the 3,000 meters in 11:56.08, while Johnathan Kintz and Amber Handran placed first in the 3,000 meters and 300-meter hurdles, respectively, clocking in at 9:54.07 and 53.83.

On the field, Kennedy’s Tia Allen won the discus with a toss of 112 feet, 6.50 inches. North Marion’s Hayden Miller took first in the boys shotput with a personal best mark of 41-3. In the girls javelin, Kennedy’s Isabel Berning finished first, throwing a personal best of 102-5. St. Paul’s James Davidson won the boys discus with a heave of 120-11, a personal best.

In the boys javelin, Kennedy’s Elijah Traeger took first over teammate Isaac Berning, registering a throw of 155-1. Gervais’ Monty Andres tied with Taft’s Trenton Battle for first in the high jump at 6 feet, while his teammate Isaiah Martushev breezed to a victory in the pole vault, clearing a personal best of 13 feet.
