BOND: BISD requests over $62 million on May 4 ballot
Beeville Independent School District is asking Beeville voters for $62,380,000 for new construction and infrastructure upgrades on the May 4 election ballot. Nearly 88% ($54,688,326) of the proposed bond is allotted for the construction of a new elementary school that will consolidate RA Hall and FMC Elementary Schools. FMC, built in 1957, is 67 years old, and its counterpart, RA Hall, was built 10 years later in 1967.
TRHS is the UIL academic district champ
Three Rivers High School competed in the UIL 31-AA High School Academic Meet and were named the district champ. Fifteen of the students will advance to the regional meet. In addition to winning the overall trophy, the Accounting, Calculator Applications and Mathematics teams placed first in the competition, winning additional trophies. The TRHS team competed against students from Kenedy, Port Aransas, Refugio, Skidmore, Woodsboro and Yorktown.

A former secretary for the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show (NCJLS) in Texas has copped to stealing nearly $200,000 from the organization over a five-year span, federal authorities said. Sara Rene Chapman, 67, of Sandia, pled guilty to one count of wire fraud after an FBI investigation revealed her brazen swindle that left the group she worked for more than a decade out to dry. Chapman admitted to starting her scheme in 2018 and persistently abusing the trust placed in her until 2023, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani's office.
