First Alert Forecast | Severe Weather Threat Returns Tonight
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - The storms of the overnight have been fading to the south this morning, and we’ll be under more pleasant weather by midday with partly sunny skies and temperatures working back through the 70s. It will be ‘deceptively’ pleasant though, as the sunshine won’t be enough to dry the ground out a whole lot, but it will be sufficient to allow the atmosphere to re-load in the afternoon, making storm energy available once again for new storms to use. And we’ll see these storms forming to our west during the day, traveling toward us this evening. The good news is that we can see these storms coming and will be able to tell which parts of our area are threatened the most, but the bad news is that we’ll be tracking a lot of this during the overnight hours. That means we’ll have to stay ‘weather aware’ even while we’re sleeping. The best way to do that is to keep your cellphone charged, with the volume up for app alerts and notifications, even phone calls if necessary. The greatest risk type for us this go-around (this evening through tomorrow morning) will be for flash flooding, but all severe weather types are still on the table.
