After Near-Fatal Heart Attack, West Allis Man Opens Hot Dog Shop in Cudahy
A West Allis man who once made his living as a plumber is trading pipe wrenches for Chicago-style hot dogs, with plans to open Dirty Dogs at 4666 S. Packard Ave. in Cudahy by Dec. 1. Jim Turner said the idea took hold after a heart attack nearly killed him earlier this year, pushing him toward work that demanded less physical strain and offered a steadier schedule.

5 Best Restaurants in Racine, Wisconsin You Need to Try Before Everyone Else Finds Them
Racine, Wisconsin — a city where Lake Michigan’s blue sweep meets the red-brick bones of industry, where Polish bakeries and Mexican taquerias stand shoulder to shoulder, and the laughter of families mingles with the dreams of newcomers. Here, the architecture is a patchwork: Victorian homes, weathered taverns, and the steady hum of factories softened by the scent of fresh bread and barbecue smoke. Racine is a crossroads — of old-timers and artists, of Hmong, Black, and Latino families, of those who remember the glory days of manufacturing and those who see possibility in every sunrise.

Former plumber to open hot dog restaurant on Packard Avenue in Cudahy
A West Allis man is trading in the sometimes-dirty plumbing trade to instead open Dirty Dogs , a hot dog-focused restaurant in Cudahy. Jim Turner said his goal was to find a less physical line of work after suffering a heart attack that nearly killed him in early 2026. He also wanted to do something he enjoyed more – cooking – and have a more set schedule. Dirty Dogs will offer various versions of hot dogs including the Chicago-style hot dog, and one topped with mac and cheese, pulled pork and coleslaw. Being in Cudahy, bacon was a given with Turner planning to offer a BLT hot dog. The restaurant will also serve Italian beef, chicken, smash burgers and a Friday fish fry with hand-breaded beer battered fish. Sides could include coleslaw, cheese curds, and possibly mac and cheese bites with other options still in discussion. Dirty Dogs is working to get a liquor license with plans to offer a small selection of beers, too. Turner is planning a soft opening with family and friends – many of whom also make up the staff – to test and finalize the menu with a goal of opening to the public Dec.
