Gatesville, TX ( FOX 44 ) — Several Central Texas communities are still recovering after Sunday’s nights severe flooding.

The overflowing Leon River and Cow House creek swamped some homeowners more than others in Coryell County.

Tractors and debris are scattered across the Spicer property having to relive Sunday nights storm.

“It was like ankle deep to waist deep in just minutes. It was crazy,” said Autumn Becka, Gatesville homeowner.

Becka lives beside Cow House creek with her daughter and husband, Hailee and Paul.

They woke up to calls early Sunday morning about flooding and immediately sprung into action.

“We had to hold on to the horses for them to swim us to the fence for us to be able to cut it and let them out,” said Hailee Spicer.

    The cars were another concern.

“I was in my little truck and the water was already almost above the headlights and coming into our vehicles. Unfortunately, three of our vehicles got swept away into the tree line,” said Spicer.

Beyond the storm destroying their home, farm, and vehicles, Spicer says it took away her sense of belonging.

“I’ve been here for 12 years of my life. Like, it’s hard to believe it’s just gone in a matter of couple hours. Like your life can just turn upside down,” said Spicer.

Becka doesn’t believe they’ll be staying in Gatesville after Sunday night’s storm.

Spicer says they saved most of their animals but two goats are still missing.

The family is now salvaging what’s left to start over.

“As much as we lost, we were still in better shape than others. We got family. Family is everything,” said Becka.
