Rock of Ages: Teen Edition

What : Rock out with the hits of the '80s in this high-energy musical. Take a journey back in time with iconic songs from Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar and more.

Tim Schroll and Richard Wehrs Exhibit Opening

What: Come for the opening reception of the Tim Schroll and Richard Wehrs Exhibition in the Mark and Jeannette Kleine Main Gallery in conjunction with the Leap into the Future! 2024 student show. Exhibition will run April 19 through May 25.

Picturing Local History: Selections from our Permanent Collection Curated by Knox College Art Museum Studies Students

Galesburg High School Glow Run

What: Get some exercise and support the fight against cancer. Celebrate the lives of family and friends lost to this disease. You can pre-register for this event or at the event. Proceeds are donated to cancer support and research.

Chicago Farmer and the Fieldtones

What: The son of a small-town farming community, Cody Diekhoff logged plenty of highway and stage time under the name Chicago Farmer before settling in the city in 2003. Inspired by fellow Midwesterner John Prine.

Earth Day at Walnut Grove Farm

What: There will be family hands-on learning sessions including Yoga, Popup Dance, book discussions, birdhouse making, make ant take art, planting seeds and a trash pickup challenge.

Earth Day Celebration

What : There will be a perennial plant sale and a vermicompost demonstration. Local producer Balm Diggity will be demonstrating lip balms. There will be samples and giveaways, along with a lunch special and 4/20 deals on select products.

Senior Students: Solar Painting

What : In celebration of Earth Day, the arts center be harnessing the sun to create artwork with natural materials from the earth.

When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 20

Where : Galesburg Community Arts Center, 349 E. Main St., Galesburg

Cost : Free for area seniors (62+). $10 deposit required for participation otherwise.

Back to the '80s Dance

What: Come for a night of dancing to the hits of the '80s. Young Dance Inc. will bring the hits and the dance skills to the event. Proceeds will go to the Galesburg Park District. Young Dance Inc. will also be offering dance workshops during the afternoon before the social dance at 7:30 p.m. No partner required. Beverages, snacks and DJ music provided by Young Dance Inc.

When: 12:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 20

Where : Lake Storey Pavilion, 1572 Machen Drive, Galesburg

Cost : $20 for all lessons, workshop and social dance or $5 per lesson; free for children ages 12 and younger

Wild Boar to Baconfest: Pigs in History and Popular Culture

What: Author Cynthia Clampitt presents the history of pigs and pork to examine the effect these animals had worldwide. Clampitt will focus on the Midwest, including why poet Carl Sandburg would call Chicago “Hog Butcher for the World.” Cynthia Clampitt has been writing and talking about food history for thirty years and has authored two books of food history.

17th Annual Thrive/KCCDD Auction Fundraiser

What : Join the celebration and support community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Live and silent auction, lucky ticket basket, cash raffle, games and dinner by Big Catz BBQ in the theme of Paradise. Funds raised will go towards the creation of a recreation space which will include a walking path with benches, sensory elements and swings.

Great Balloon Race Spring Trivia Night Fundraiser

What: Come for an evening of music trivia. Limited space. Be sure to register your team. Play begins at 7 p.m. J & J Entertainment will be providing the music trivia. Mulligans and Doublers will be for sale along with a 50/50 drawing, baked goods and popcorn. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. All proceeds will support the Great Balloon Race July 26-28 at Lake Storey.

Caxton Reading Series

What : A literary organization on the Knox College campus, Caxton Club brings high-profile poets, novelists and essayists to campus every term to read their works in a setting open to all community members. The club is named after the first English printer, William Caxton. Working closely with the English Department at Knox College, Caxton Club is student-run and with question-and-answer sessions after most readings, encourages literary discourse on the Knox campus. The reader April 22 is Rakesh Satyal at Keiner Letterpress Studio.
