Press release from the Matheson History Museum

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Don’t miss the Sandy Back Porch band playing bluegrass on the porch of the Historic Matheson House as a part of the Second Saturdays at Sweetwater series.

On Saturday, May 11, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., watch the sparks fly from the guitar of Stan Burns along with hot banjo AND mandolin licks from Ernie Evans. Don’t forget Sandy Holdeman’s thumps on Big Daddy Bass and maybe a little harmonica and dancing. All three musicians sing both lead and harmony vocals.

Stan Burns began playing guitar professionally when he was 13 years old and toured nationally as a teenager. Close your eyes, and you will think Johnny Cash is singing. We are truly blessed to have multi-instrumentalist Ernie Evans with us. Ernie is a third-generation musician traveling all over the world throughout his career. He is also the largest bluegrass promoter in the southeast, hosting 11 bluegrass festivals and winning promoter of the year award for 2024 at the Nashville Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass for America (SPBGMA).

This trio promises to bring a smile to your face with hotter-than-fire, time-honored standards played the way they are supposed to be played.

The Historic Matheson House is located at 513 E. University Avenue.

This event is sponsored in part by Visit Gainesville/Alachua County, FL; The City of Gainesville; and by the Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council of the Arts and Culture, and the State of Florida.
