    Gadsden area high school softball roundup: How Gadsden area teams did at regionals

    Five Gadsden area high school softball teams made it through the regionals and will begin play at the state tournament.

    While no Etowah County teams made it through, there will still be a local flare to the state tournament but before looking at the state tournament its time to see how area teams did during the AHSAA East Regional.

    Who advanced to the state tournament?

    Spring Garden - Class 1A qualifier 2

    Spring Garden made the state tournament in style, winning three games in one day to advance. They fell to Skyline in the second game but won their next three.

    Game 1: Panthers vs. Maplesville, Monday at 10:45 a.m.

    Pisgah - Class 2A qualifier 2

    Pisgah fell to the loser bracket after a loss in the regional title game but rebounded to take down West End and advance to states.

    Game 1: Eagles vs. Thorsby, Thursday, May 16 at 9 a.m.

    Plainview - Class 3A qualifier 1

    Make it nine straight Elite Eight appearances for the Queens of Class 3A who are looking to defend their state title again. The Bears cruised through the regional and put any doubt of a step back to rest. Plainview's Shianne Parker had nine strikeouts in the regional final while Hannah Regula brought in three RBIs in the 9-4 win over Piedmont.

    Game 1: Bears vs. Alabama Christian Academy, Thursday, May 16 at 10:45 a.m.

    Piedmont - Class 3A qualifier 2

    Make it four straight Elite Eight appearances for the Bulldogs who are looking to break through and bring a state title home to Piedmont. They fell to Plainview but responded with a strong 8-6 win over Glencoe. Cayla Brothers had two RBIs while Savannah Smith shined with three RBIs in the final. She threw 12 ⅔ innings with with nine strikeouts.

    Game 1: Bulldogs vs. St. James, Thursday, May 16 at 10:45 a.m.

    Cherokee County - Class 4A qualifier 1

    A year after making the state tournament going through elimination bracket the goal was to make it through the winners bracket − and they did just that. Raechel Russell brought in the game winning RBI as Macy Lea scored on an obstruction charge. Grayson Tucker and Emma Hill both brought in two RBIs in the opening game.

    Game 1: Warriors vs. Prattville Christian, Monday, May 13 at 10:45 a.m.

    How other Gadsden area teams did in regionals

    Boaz

    The Pirates fell in their opening game but made it through the elimination bracket up to the semifinal before allowing the Valley Cubs to come back and knock them out.

    Coosa Christian

    The Conquerors were run-ruled by Spring Garden and were trending to another big loss when a comeback was mounted in the final inning. They ended up tying the game but lost on a walkoff passed ball. Meleah Crane had three RBIs in the season ending loss to Victory Christian.

    Fyffe

    The Red Devils fell to West End and North Sand Mountain.

    Glencoe

    Glencoe made it to the qualifier two final but fell to Piedmont. Both of its losses in the regional came to teams that made the state tournament. Abi Bunt had a strong end to her high school career with three RBIs and four runs scored over the final two games.

    Geraldine

    The Bulldogs fell to Geraldine before falling to Vinemont to see their season end.

    Guntersville

    The Wildcats struggled being run-ruled twice in the regional.

    Hokes Bluff

    The Eagles run-ruled Vinemont in the opening game behind three hits, two RBIs and four runs scored by Abby Payne, and a homerun and complete game performance by Lacey Grace Hall. Back-to-back losses saw the Eagles season ended.

    Jacksonville

    The Golden Eagles fell to Madison County and Cordova.

    Sand Rock

    Sand Rock fell into the elimination bracket but advanced once before falling to West End.

    Southside

    It was a tale of two days for the Panthers, winning their first two games to set up a day where they needed to win one of two games. The Panthers fell to Moody after the Blue Devils jumped on them and fell to Alexandria in the final game of the elimination bracket.

    West End

    The Patriots beat Fyffe in the opening game but a loss to eventual qualifier Pleasant Valley sent them to the elimination bracket. From there they made the bracket's final game but fell to Pisgah.
