Led by a few standout performances, it was a great week for Gadsden area track and field teams as they competed in states meets.
Classes 1A-3A were in Cullman Friday-Saturday, while Classes 4A-7A were in Gulf Shores from Thursday to Saturday. Cherokee County girls team, led by a standout day from South Alabama commit Mary Hayes Johnson, brought home a second-place trophy. Alex Johnson took home three state titles for the Warriors.
In Etowah County LJ Mostella brought two state titles back to Coosa Christian while Gaston's Kodie Bogle broke the Class 2A state javelin record with a throw of 184-feet. Sardis had a trio of throwers place in the top-10 for their events as well.
Gadsden City's Nyla Franklin brought home the first state title in school history by winning the Class 6A high jump.

Adriano Alberghina, Southside
Alberghina finished fourth in the javelin throw with a toss of 159-feet, 2-inches.
Keaton Bean, Westbrook Christian
Bean finished fifth in the long jump, with a leap of 19-feet, 9.25-inches. He finished 19th in the high jump.
Kodie Bogle, Gaston
Bogle set the Class 2A record in javelin by two feet, throwing 184-feet, 1-inch, for his third straight javelin state title. In high jump, he finished fifth with a hump of 41-feet, 7-inches.
Mylie Butler, Susan Moore
Butler finished second in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles in Class 3A.
Tyshaun Cameron, Jacksonville
Cameron finished third in the 300 hurdles.
Evan Christopher, Southside
Christopher finished third in the 3,200-meter with a time of 9:48 and sixth in the 1,600-meter.
Skyler Cody, Fort Payne
Cody finished fourth in the 110 meter and second in the 300-meter.
Allie Cone, Ashville
Cone finished 10th in the 800 meter and 18th in the 1,600.
Seth Cooper, Sardis
Cooper finished 10th in the discus throw.
Claudia Dempsey, Piedmont
Dempsey finished third in the Class 3A 800-meter run.
Aubrey Evans, Fort Payne
Evans finished second in the high jump.
Nyla Franklin, Gadsden City
The eighth grader took home the first state title in the schools history winning the high jump with a jump of 5-feet, 6-inches.
Gage Garner, Sardis
Garner finished ninth in the shot put.
Cooper Garrett, Fort Payne
Garrett took home the state title in the javelin with a throw of 138 feet. She also finished seventh in the triple jump and fourth in the discus throw.
Zyan Gibson, Gadsden City
Gibson finished fourth in the 100 with a time of 10.79.
Zoey Handy, Sand Rock
Handy finished second in the Class 2A 100-meter hurdles.
Ruthie Jones, Fort Payne
Jones finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 58.63. She also finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 2:19.62.
Alex Johnson, Cherokee County
Johnson took home state titles in the 100, 200 and 400. He ran a 10.73 in the 100, a 21.68 in the 200 and a 49.68 in the 400.
Mary Hayes Johnson, Cherokee County
Johnson brought home two state titles, the first in the 200 with a time of 24.86. The second came in the 300 with a time of 56.58 seconds, two seconds better than her closest competitor. She finished second in the 100 with a time of 12.23 seconds. She ran the 100 hurdles in 15.11 to come in second.
Daniel Leija, Albertville
Leija finished ninth in the 3200 and 17th in the 1600.
DJ Mackey, Coosa Christian
Mackey finished eight in the 100, 13th in the 200 and ninth in the 400-meter.
Cesleigh Martin, Guntersville
Martin finished second with a throw of more than 36 feet. She finished 11th in the discus throw.
Ryan Matthews, Ashville
Matthews finished fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:59.12
Samiya McElrath, Cherokee County
McElrath ran a 58.62 and finished second in the 400 meter.
Cooper Morrison, Guntersville
Morrison finished third in the long jump.
LJ Mostella, Coosa Christian
Mostella had an outstanding state meet, bringing home two state titles in the 100-meter and 200-meter. He ran a 11.24 second 100 and a 22.93 200.
Skylar Nash, Sand Rock
Nash finished fifth in the discus, seventh in javelin and 11th in shot put.
Jose Ponce, Sardis
Ponce finished ninth in the javelin.
Kyla Price, Gadsden City
Price finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 59.51
Ashton Pruett, Cherokee County
Pruett finished fourth in the shot put.
Lexi Ray, Piedmont
Ray finished second in the pole vault, clearing 9-feet, 6-inches.
Parker Smith, Ashville
Smith finished sixth in the high jump, clearing 6-feet, 2-inches.
Deannia Starr, Cherokee County
Starr finished seventh in the shot put and 14th in discus.
Kathryn Webb, Southside
Webb finished 16th in the long jump and 18th in the triple jump.
Madeleine Wharton, Guntersville
Wharton finished in a tie for third with a mark of 9-feet, 6-inches, in pole vault.
Conner Willingham, Hokes Bluff
Willingham placed second with a throw of 168-feet, 3-inches, in the javelin. He placed 12th in the shot put and fourth in discus with a throw of 130-feet, 3-inches.
Brodey Wood, Westbrook Christian
Wood placed third with a throw of 165-feet, 7-inches, in the javelin.
Lydie Varnadore, Fort Payne
The freshman finished third in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.46. She finished fourth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 45.99. She finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump.
Caleb Yoder, Sand Rock
Yoder finished fourth in the 1600-meter with a time of 4:33.
