Gadsden State Community College Launches “Don’t Drop It on Alabama” Cleanup Campaign

Gadsden, AL – Gadsden State Community College (GSCC) is gearing up to lead the charge in environmental stewardship with their winning cleanup campaign, “Don’t Drop It on Alabama,” set to kick off next month.

The initiative, spearheaded by Lynn Patterson, director of Student Life at GSCC, aims to promote environmental awareness, community engagement, and beautification efforts across campuses and surrounding areas.

In collaboration with the Alabama Community College System (ACCS), the Alabama Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils, Alabama People Against a Littered State (ALPALS), and Coca-Cola, GSCC secured a $50,000 grant to fund cleanup events throughout April. ALPALS will provide essential cleanup materials, while Coca-Cola will contribute promotional banners and beverages for volunteers.

Gadsden State’s commitment to environmental stewardship was recently recognized at the annual ALPALS awards ceremony, where the college received accolades for hosting the most successful cleanup event last November. Volunteers collected over 800 pounds of litter, earning them the Campus Cleanup Scholarship valued at $1,000.

Patterson emphasized the competitive aspect of the campaign, which motivated students to actively participate and engage in cleanup efforts. The success of the initiative has spurred enthusiasm among student groups, fostering a sense of pride and community involvement.
